PSDP

The PSDP usually takes the form of a consulting architect or engineer and is appointed before a building project commences. The PSDP is responsible for ensuring that Health and Safety is coordinated on the project from the initial design stage of the project right through to completion. In all cases the person or company undertaking the role must have the necessary competence to carry out the relevant duties.

What are the main duties of the PSDP?

  • At the design stage the PSDP must eliminate hazards or keep risk to a minimum through their planning and organisation of the project.
  • Organise cooperation between all of the designer parties on the project
  • Notify the relevant parties(including the client) when there is non-compliance with directives
  • If the project is going to take more than 30 days or there are more than 500 persons involved on the project a written Safety and Health Plan must be prepared.
  • Communicate all assumptions, risks outstanding etc. in the Health and Safety Plan so that all parties are aware going forward on the project.

  • Visit the site at an early stage with the client to ensure that all risks with the site are identified at an early stage.
  • Prepare Risk Assessments, Preliminary Health and Safety Plan and all Safety Files.
  • Set up a clear line of communication between all design parties at the design stage.
